When adding the finishing touches to a home, most people tend to stick to one type of window treatment. You may not have considered that there are many ways to combine different types, such as paring blinds and curtains.

There are lots of functional benefits to pairing blinds with curtains. Blinds give you flexible options for light control while maintaining privacy in your home. Meanwhile, curtains provide the best insulation and add character to any room. Pairing the two helps to combine their benefits and give you stylish decor options.

Aside from the functional benefits, mixing a combination of blinds and curtains can be the perfect finishing touch, as you can achieve visually appealing looks. The numerous options this pairing provides can also help you set the mood for any occasion.

Our favourite combinations

Not sure where to start? We’ve been helping to provide the finishing touches to family homes all over Perth for over 35 years now. Over the years, we’ve built up a few trusted combinations when it comes to pairing blinds and curtains. Here are a few of our favourites.

Sheer curtains over roller blinds
Placing sheer curtains over roller blinds allows plenty of natural, energising light to enter your home but doesn’t compromise your privacy. This combination is ideal for rooms used often during the day, such as your lounge room or kitchen.

Another option is to go for blockout roller blinds with sheer curtains if you need complete darkness at times, for example, in a theatre room or bedroom.

Looking for the best night's sleep you’ve ever had?  Try placing blockout curtains over roller blinds. You’ll have complete darkness when you need it and control over the amount of privacy and light you want to enter your room otherwise.

How can I combine both blinds and curtains?

Although you can install curtains and blinds yourself, we recommend letting the professionals handle this one so you can make sure the job is done correctly.

At Decor Blinds & Curtains, we use only in-house installers on every job we do. Our team prides itself on leaving your property in the best possible conditions, leaving you nothing to worry about but your amazing new blinds and curtain combination.

Style tips

Choose a good colour scheme
When deciding on a colour scheme for your blinds and curtains combination, you could choose to match the wall with the same shade (or even slightly lighter or darker) to get a cohesive look and make the space look bigger. Another option is to choose a complementary colour and make a statement.

Consider how you want to change the space
Your window treatment is a powerful focal point in any room. You can make a dark room seem bright or a light room feel cosier by choosing the right colour scheme for your pairing of blinds and curtains. A neutral colour scheme will make a room feel comfortable, while bright colours will bring some fun to an otherwise simple space.

Add some drama and make an impact
Why not make your window treatment the centre of attention? Use patterns or long draping fabrics to bring focus to your curtains, while neutral blinds blend into the background. You could also bring attention to your furniture by matching your window treatments or using colours from the same scheme.

You could even opt for sheer curtains paired with blackout curtains for some extra drama.
